Great Moments in Classical Mythology, Chapter 13: Perseus and Medusa. Dear Diary: Had a hard time at the office today! Suppose I should've expected as much when King Polydectes first hired me to slay that Gorgon monster, Medusa. But as I always say, ''Live and let live.'' (Oops!) ''Live and learn.'' I've learned how to survive in a new job. It's simple really. My survival depends on meeting the same Employer Expectations under which I was hired: Appearance, Dependability, and Skills. Now take Appearance, for example. Bet you can't guess what it takes to dress for success as a hero these days. Wings! Can you believe it? I wear them on my head and feet. Sure, it's a fashion risk, but you can't beat wings for flying into the fray. (On second thought, I guess I do beat wings for flying into the fray! Get it? Flap, flap. Ha, ha.) My other accessories include a magic sword and a mirror-finished shield. It's all so Nouveau Chic, don't you think? But I digress. So Diary, to make a long myth short, I'll just say that I kicked some Gorgon keister this afternoon. And I did it while avoiding being turned to stone! Victory is sweet. Happily, I'm surviving on my new job and getting ahead. (Get it? A HEAD. Ha, ha.) Till tomorrow, Perseus
